Philomena (first name)
Philomena is a feminine given name derived from the Greek .
Origin and meaning
The name is probably derived from the Greek words φίλος phílos (= friend) and μένος ménos (= courage, strength, strength), i.e. friend of courage . The form Philumena corresponds to an interpretation as a passive present participle φιλουμένη philouménē from φιλεῖν phileîn (= to love, to caress), so "beloved". The word μένος ménos (= (fierce) desire, zeal, will, resolution, anger, anger, vitality, strength) in conjunction with the word φίλος phílos (= friend) would, however, also allow an active interpretation in the form of Philomena , i.e. one impetuous woman who loves zeal .
