Philoxenus (Koroplast)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philoxenos ( ancient Greek Φιλόξενος ) was a Greek coroplast of the early 5th century BC. Chr.

His name is only known through an inscription on a late archaic clay matrix of a seated goddess. The left-hand inscription is written in a local Tarentine alphabet and begins at the head of the goddess. It reads ΦΙΛΟΞΕΝΟ ΕΜΙ (I am Philoxenus).

The sculpture is in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Bari (inventory number 2548).
