Phlebitis migrans

The phlebitis migrans ( syn. Thrombophlebitis migrans, phlebitis saltans , thrombophlebitis saltans ) is occurring at different locations of the body thrombophlebitis . The vein is not changed like a varicose vein .

causes

This form of thrombophlebitis is most common in thrombangiitis obliterans (Buerger's disease). Up to 62% of these patients suffer from phlebitis migrans. It often occurs as a paraneoplastic accompanying symptom . Typical carcinomas are, for example, bronchial carcinoma , pancreatic carcinoma and leukemia . This form of thrombophlebitis has also been described in the context of vasculitides such as Wegener's granulomatosis , lupus erythematosus or giant cell arteritis in polymyalgia rheumatica .

localization

The outer sides of the legs are preferably affected. It is less common to find it on the arm or trunk.

Diagnosis

A phlebitis saltans should be the reason for a clarifying diagnosis for the diagnosing doctor. For this purpose, a tumor search can be carried out using imaging methods or the extremity vessels can be assessed. A sample biopsy can also be performed.
