Matthias Grübel has been producing under the name Phon ° noir since 2004. In 2006 he released his official debut Putting Holes Into October Skies on the Belgian label Quatermass Records. The successor The Objects Don't Need Us was released by Sub Rosa in autumn 2007 . His pieces range between sketchy guitar pop, playful electronics and musique concrète . Fragmented instrumental passages and minimal text sequences meet rhythmically interwoven everyday noises abstracted from their origins. Numerous Phon ° noir remixes have also been created for other artists. Grübel reworked pieces by Alexander Veljanov (Deine Lakaien) and the American band Uzi & Ari, among others. His own pieces were u. a. remixed by Mikhail Karikis, Calika, Uzi & Ari and TG Mauss.

Matthias Grübel also publishes instrumental music under the name Telekaster, characterized by ambient textures and noise experiments. The debut album The Silent Anagram was released in June 2009 by Panic Arrest (UK). Telekaster is also and above all to be understood as a multimedia project. The second band member is video director Stefan Bünnig, and together they have already created several video / music works and numerous live events based on the combination of Grübel's spherical sounds and Bünnig's minimal real film sequences.

Together with the writer Jörg Albrecht , Grübel has also formed the Phonofix duo since 2006 . In performances, which are equally determined by music, videos and stylized presentations, the character of conventional literature readings is undermined. Radio play works are created according to the same aesthetic principle, the focus of which is always the attempt to make language and music tangible as aesthetic phenomena that are similar in nature.

In addition to working on Phon ° noir, Telekaster and Phonofix, Grübel also produces music for theater productions, most recently as part of the group Copy & Waste.
