Photo-Drama of Creation is a four-part religious film by the Watchtower Society from 1914. The project was initiated by Charles Taze Russell and his Bible Students' Movement , from which the Jehovah's Witnesses later emerged.
content
The demonstration led through the Bible by means of image and sound - from creation to the patriarchs , from the history of Israel to Jesus Christ and finally, visionary, to his promised thousand-year rule of peace .
technology
The Photo-Drama of Creation was an innovative combination of films, photographs and sound recordings. It comprised over three kilometers of film material consisting of around 250,000 individual images, 500 hand-painted photographs and 26 gramophone records with music and voice recordings accompanying the film. Even parts of the footage were colored by hand. The images were produced by commercial film studios and by professional artists. Integrated time-lapse recordings , such as the opening of a flower or the hatching of a chick from an egg, met with particular interest .
Performances
The world premiere took place in January 1914 in New York. In Germany, the photo drama was shown for the first time in April 1914 in Barmen . By the end of 1914, over nine million people in the United States, Europe, New Zealand and Australia had seen the photo drama. At least 20 four-part sets of the photo-drama were produced, so that a part could be shown in up to 80 different cities every day, which in practice was limited by the shortage of train connections and screening rooms. The 8-hour photo drama was often shown in two parts, each around 4 hours long.
Revisions
In 1918, some pictures from the film with text appeared as a book under the same name.
In 1922 the film was revised and from now on called the Eureka drama . The films were dispensed with and only music and lecture recordings, or sound recordings and photos, were used, which was particularly well received in less densely populated areas. In 1927 it was revised again and now called the Creation Drama. When the film was banned in 1933, the performances in Germany were stopped.
