Photographie (own spelling: PHOTOGRAPHIE) is a German photo magazine. The first edition appeared in January 1977. Photography has been published by IdeaTorial GmbH, Tostedt, since 2015.

Photography reports on current digital and analogue photo technology and offers tests and purchase advice. In addition, the magazine introduces renowned photographers and young talents with portfolios , making-of reports, interviews and portraits. In practical series, photographic background knowledge and practical know-how are imparted for amateurs and professionals.

history

In January 1977 Ernst Meier published the first edition of Photography in Switzerland, and a few years later the magazine was also published in Germany. Until 1993, the editorial office was based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. In 1993 the editorial office was relocated to Düsseldorf, 2003 to Essen and 2008 to Hamburg. At the end of 2009 the Hamburg publishing house Untitled added the magazine to its portfolio. At the turn of the year 2016, PHOTOGRAPHIE will be owned by IdeaTorial GmbH, Späth editorial team. Frank Späth remains the editor-in-chief. Photographie is the official magazine for the members of the German Association for Photography (DVF).

Circulation statistics

In the fourth quarter of 2014, the average circulation according to IVW was 25,336 copies. That is 175 copies per issue more (+ 0.7%) than in the same quarter of the previous year. The number of subscribers fell within one year by 142 subscribers to an average of 10,384 per issue (−1.4%); thus around 41% of readers subscribed to the magazine.

Photography has been honoring outstanding achievements by young up-and-coming photographers with the PhotoVision photo prize since 1999. Photography is also a member of the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA).
