Phrack (magazine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Phrack Magazine (English Phrack Magazine , from English phr eak and h ack , German Enthusiastic and (data) hacker ) is an underground magazine that has existed since November 17, 1985 and is distributed free of charge over the Internet . It was the first magazine to be distributed only electronically and mainly deals with topics of IT security , hacking , phreaking , anarchism and, like the 2600 magazine , is one of the most important magazines in the hacker scene.

In the summer of 2005, word was circulated that Phrack would be discontinued with issue 63. This “last” issue appeared for the first time on July 29th as a printed booklet, which was distributed free of charge at the hacking events What The Hack and DEFCON . According to the information in the editorial of this issue, it should not definitely be the last issue.

In May 2007 issue 64 appeared with new editors. Since then, further editions have appeared at irregular intervals. The current issue 69 was published on May 6, 2016.

Furthermore, information on the creation of a so-called zip gun , a handgun, and other bombs / weapons can be found in earlier issues of the Phrack magazine . Often misleading claims are made that one issue describes the manufacture of the drug " Crystal Speed ". In issue 4 there is actually an article that describes the alleged manufacture of the drug from a cold preparation that can be purchased. However, these instructions are not actually suitable for the preparation of the drug, as the cold preparation described only contains the active ingredient in a modified variant, which is unsuitable for intoxication purposes.
