The Osgood ear mouse ( Phyllotis osgoodi ) is a little researched rodent from the genus of the ear mice ( Phyllotis ). The kind epithet honors the American zoologist Wilfred Hudson Osgood .

The total length is 180 to 245 mm, the head-torso length 84 to 135 mm, the tail length 80 to 110 mm, the hind foot length 24.0 to 29.0 mm, the ear length 19.6 to 28.0 mm and the weight 27.0 to 57.5 g. Phyllotis osgoodi resembles the Darwin eared mouse ( Phyllotis darwini ) in its habit . The upper side color varies from beige coffee brown to yellow brown. The hair is black. The belly is dirty gray. The karyotype is 2n = 40.

Occurrence, habitat and way of life

The Osgood eared ear mouse is endemic to the Altiplano in the Chilean province of Arica . The known specimens were caught at an altitude of 4400 meters. Nothing is known about the way of life.

The Osgood eared ear mouse has a relatively small range of about 5000 km². The region is currently affected by mining activities . The IUCN lists the species in the category " data deficient ".
