The plant mowers ( Phytotoma ) belong to the species-rich order of the passerine birds (Passeriformes). Their name refers to their rounded beak, which has a sawed edge. With this they are able to pinch off leaves, buds, shoots and fruits.
Three species belong to this family, all of which are common in South America. They live in forests and open landscapes. So who lives band plantcutter in dry bushes and acacia trees in Bolivia , Paraguay , Uruguay and Argentina . Since the species in this family occasionally invade agricultural land, they are sometimes viewed as pests.
The birds reach a body length of 18 to 19.5 centimeters. Your nest is a simple plate made of root fibers. The females lay two to four eggs on average, which are greenish-blue in color and have dark spots.
