Picture Manipulation Inspector (PMI) is a software for digital image forensics from the IT service company Cognizant Technology Solutions .

In the field of image forensics, the PMI software is one of the world's first solutions for detecting photo manipulation .

description

The Picture Manipulation Inspector is based on a self-learning database and a neural network with more than ten algorithms . It determines objectively whether an image has been manipulated in the sense of fraud.

No image manipulation in the sense of fraud

  • Editing
  • Enlarge / reduce / crop an image
  • Tonal value corrections etc.
  • Format conversion

Image manipulation in the sense of fraud

  • Painting
  • Remove / change / add image sections

To check the authenticity of the images, the PMI software uses SMDTP technology to analyze the image data with regard to the characteristics of the image origin on the one hand and the existence of image processing operations on the other. The program detects any deviations from the origin of the image as well as image manipulation and then presents them with probability calculations in an analysis report. Due to the automation of the image forensic processes, the use of the PMI software almost replaces the manual forensic examination of images.

Areas of application

The PMI software can be used in many areas to ensure the authenticity of images. The software is primarily used by photo agencies and picture editors. Other areas of application are insurance companies, complaints departments, investigative authorities and experts, as images are often used as evidence for payments, complaints and damage documentation. PMI is designed for the 64-bit version of the free Linux distribution Ubuntu 12.04.
