The Pictures in a Frame GmbH is a German film production company based in Munich .

history

Pictures in a Frame Filmproduktion was founded in 2011 by Jan Gallasch and Tobias Herrmann as a UG and converted into a GmbH in 2014. In 2012 the company received the “Arthur Hofer Scholarship”, a one-time award on the 20th anniversary of the Bavarian Film Center, and then relocated its offices to the Bavaria Film site. An 18-month VGF office scholarship followed in 2013, which was extended for another two years in 2015. In 2016, the company was included in the VFF's Business Angel program, with Dan Maag (Managing Director, Pantaleon Films GmbH) acting as mentor. In February 2018 Wolfram Winter (former head of communications and company spokesman for Sky Deutschland) was accepted into the group of shareholders and has since chaired the shareholders' meeting.

Gallasch and Herrmann have been working together since the beginning of their studies. After several smaller projects, a festival success followed in 2009 with the short film “La petite mort”. The first project after the company was founded was the relationship drama “Ein Liebesspiel”, which was first broadcast on BR in May 2012. The second collaboration with the broadcaster was the comedy “Monas Mayor”. The project celebrated its world premiere at Sehsüchten 2013, and both were nominated for the festival's producer award. The third collaboration with the BR in 2014 was the German-Greek coproduction "Bread & Olives", funded by the FFF Bayern and the DAAD. The short film premiered at the 2015 Hof Film Festival.

Since 2013 the company has been concentrating on the development of audience-oriented, fictional cinema material. Including the YouTube comedy "Bruder vor Luder", which was released in 2015 by Constantin Film (480,000 visitors, DA-CH), and the FFF-funded drama "Nirgendwo" with Ludwig Trepte, Saskia Rosendahl and Jella Haase, for which Sky Deutschland and ServusTV were co-producers (world premiere in September 2016 at the 12th Zurich Film Festival). In 2018 followed the road movie comedy " 25 Km / h " by Markus Goller and Oliver Ziegenbalg, which was in coproduction with their newly founded Sunny Side Up GmbH, Deutsche Columbia Pictures GmbH, Traumfabrik Babelsberg & Babelsberg Film GmbH and Mythos Filmproduktion GmbH & Co. KG was realized. Lars Eidinger, Bjarne Mädel, Alexandra M. Lara, Franka Potente, Jella Haase, Jördis Triebel and Wotan Wilke Möhring took on the leading roles. The film, which Sony Pictures Entertainment released in German cinemas on October 31, 2018, entered the cinema charts at number 4 as the strongest German production and had almost 280,000 visitors in its first week of cinema. In July 2019, the film entered the box office again at number 19 and cracked the barrier of 1,000,000 admissions.
