Joy Jacqueline Pereira

Joy Jacqueline Pereira (* 1965 ) is a Malaysian geoscientist. She is a Professor in Disaster Prevention at the National University of Malaysia .

Life

Pereira earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the National University of Malaysia in 1989, a Master of Science degree from the University of Leicester in 1991 and a PhD from the University of Malaya in 1996 .

Act

Pereira's research includes disaster risk reduction , adaptation to climate change, and the management of natural resources for sustainable development with a focus on linking science and politics. In 2009, Pereira led a group to develop Malaysia’s national climate policy on behalf of the Ministry of Environment. It also developed the National Action Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Pereira is u. a. one of the authors of the Fifth Assessment Report of the IPCC (2014) and the special report on global warming of 1.5 degrees by the IPCC (2018).
