The Piel CP-30 Emeraude (Eng. Smaragd) is a sport aircraft from the French designer Claude Piel .
history
The Emeraude was created in competition with the Jodel D11 as a simple and inexpensive sports aircraft. The first flight of the F-WFVY prototype, equipped with a Continental A65 boxer engine with 48 kW, took place on June 19, 1954. In addition to modified rudders and wings , the later series models mostly had the more powerful Continental C90 -12F engine with 70 kW. The most frequently built version, the CP-301A, was given a full-view sliding hood instead of a side-opening cockpit hood, which significantly improved visibility. In Germany, the aircraft was registered on October 1, 1958 and produced under license by Schempp-Hirth and Binder Aviatik, for example . It was also built in Great Britain and South Africa . The CP-301E version followed in 1961 and was equipped with the again more powerful Rolls-Royce Continental O-200-A with 74 kW.
construction
The Emeraude is a two - seater low - wing aircraft with a non-retractable tail wheel made of wood. The seats are installed next to each other in the wide fuselage and equipped with a double control. The elliptical wings with NACA-23012 profile are equipped with landing flaps , the landing gear with shock absorbers.
use
The machine with its good flight characteristics was used as a school, sport and towing aircraft for gliders.
