The Piedmontese cattle is a breed of domestic cattle that occurs mainly in Piedmont .

The Piedmontese cattle are white-yellowish, with gray mottling and dark pigmentation of the horn tips, the eyes, ears, the tail tassel and the muzzle . It is related to the zebus , which can be seen in the structure of the skull and especially in the thoracic vertebrae , where, as in the zebu, in contrast to all other European cattle breeds, the end of the spinous process is split. The genetic material of this ancient Tauro-Indian breed has remained unchanged due to thousands of years of isolation in the Piedmontese foothills of the Alps.

Bulls reach a height at the withers of 132 cm to 140 cm and a weight of 600 to 800 kg. The height at the withers of the cows is between 127 and 130 cm and their weight is 450 kg to 500 kg.

Due to the double-ended feature - the carcass has a higher proportion of valuable carcasses at the expense of bone and fat - the Piedmontese cattle is a particularly sought-after breed in meat production. However, this characteristic is linked to a high heavy birth rate.

The population of the Piedmontese cattle in 2008 was approx. 236,150 animals.
