Live and act

Broué fought in the Second World War as a member of the French Communist Party (PCF) in the Resistance against the German occupiers. When Stalin dissolved the Comintern in 1943, he left the PCF. Broué confessed to Trotskyism early on and thus became a member of the Communiste Internationaliste organization , from which he was expelled in 1989. He later sympathized with the International Marxist Tendency . In 1978 he founded the Leon Trotsky Institute (ILT for short - Institut Léon Trotsky ) and published the French edition of the Trotsky Works. In total, Broué published more than 20 books, including a two-volume biography of Trotsky (1988) and a work on the Spanish Civil War.

The Berlin historian Andreas Oberender said of Broué's biography of Trotsky : “It is held in a tone of naive, ingratiating admiration that embarrasses every reader; In the preface the author expresses seriously hope in the course of reading will the reader Trotsky, learn to love it. ' "The historian Hermann Weber , however, ruled that due to the wealth of material presented and the glossy presentation she was a very meritorious work, that would bring insight and profit to anyone interested in history.

Pierre Broué was a professor at the Institute for Political Studies at the University of Grenoble . Before that he worked as a teacher. He was married three times and the father of five children, including the mathematician Michel Broué .
