Pierre Daubenton

Pierre Daubenton (born April 10, 1703 in Montbard , † September 14, 1776 ) was a French lawyer, politician, author and encyclopedia .

Life

He was the son of Jean Daubenton (1669-1736) and his wife Marie Pichenot (* approx. 1680). His brother was the naturalist Louis Jean-Marie Daubenton (1716–1800). In his hometown of Montbard, he initially worked as a lawyer at the local court (avocat au Parlement) , later also as mayor (maire) , fortress commander (châtelain) , lieutenant in the police force and officer in the local army (lieutenant général de police et colonel des armes) active in the city of Montbard.

He was very interested in natural history topics. As a collaborator on the Encyclopédie project, he wrote articles on subjects from botany and zoology as well as on agricultural issues. On October 22, 1737 he married Bernarde Amyot, they had a son: Georges Louis Daubenton (1739–1785).
