Pierre Levasseur
Pierre Georges Albert Levasseur (born July 16, 1890 in Paris , † August 2, 1941 in Paris) was a French aircraft designer and founder of the Sociéte Pierre Levasseur Aéronautique, which mainly manufactured aircraft for the French navy between the First and Second World Wars .
Life
Levasseur was born in Paris in 1890 as the son of Edouard Louis Désiré and Ciuditta Noelie (née de Siebenthal) Levasseur. His father made musical instruments. He had an older sister, Aliette Blanche Albertine (January 12, 1883). In 1918 he married Henriette Jeanne Hierzig. On April 18, 1922 he was accepted into the Legion of Honor with the rank of Chevalier. He had a daughter Colette Levasseur.

Pierre Levasseur founded his company in 1909. First he designed and built propellers, in 1910 he began building aircraft and founded a flight school in Juvisy . In 1931 the company became a stock corporation. The company closed in 1963.
The PL 2 was the first aircraft that was part of the equipment of the aircraft carrier Béarn . In 1927 Levasseur developed the PL 8-01, known as the white bird, for Charles Nungesser and François Coli for their Atlantic crossing.
