Pierre Monbeig

Pierre Monbeig (born September 15, 1908 in Marissel , † September 22, 1987 in Cavalaire ) was a French geographer.

Monbeig was a French-style regional geographer, heavily influenced by Paul Vidal de la Blache , Albert Demangeon and Emmanuel de Martonne .

He worked in Brazil from 1935 to 1946, where he became a professor at the University of São Paulo and played a decisive role in the creation of the geography department there. He was the doctoral supervisor of the first generation of geographers trained at the same university, including Pasquale Petrone (* 1924) and Aziz Ab'Sáber .

He later returned to France and in 1975 became a professor at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris.
