The original marine choir “Blue Boys from Bremerhaven” is a seamen's choir that has, in addition to sea shanties and shanties , evergreens, folk songs and pop songs in its repertoire.
history
The choir was originally founded in 1960 as a pure leisure choir at what was then the Technical Naval School II in Bremerhaven . After the first and actually only appearance, the response was so great that it was decided to continue the choir in the future.
Since 1966, the use of marine choirs as a means of public relations has been underpinned by a ministerial decree. Today the choir is a facility for leisure time activities for soldiers at the Naval Operation School (MOS) in Bremerhaven and is unique within the Bundeswehr.
The marine choir gives an average of ten to twelve concerts per year and performs throughout Germany but also abroad. There are also radio and television appearances.
The choir consists of soldiers from the MOS and other agencies of the German Navy , but also of reservists . Around 60 soldiers of all rank groups are currently active in the choir. The choir officer is the military superior of the choir. The artistic direction is incumbent on the volunteer choir director Stabsbootsmann Unolf Ganzer.
