Pierre Nicole

Pierre Nicole (born October 19, 1625 in Chartres , † November 16, 1695 in Paris ) was a French theologian and logician and a representative of Jansenism .

With Antoine Arnauld , he wrote La logique ou l'art de penser (known as the Logic of Port-Royal ), a book that propagated logical reasoning as a prerequisite for gaining knowledge. It was of particular importance to the Enlightenmentists of the 18th century.
