Pierre aux Boeufs

The Pierre aux Bœufs ( German  Ochsenstein ) is a menhir on the road to Saint Aquilin d'Augerons , southwest of Montreuil-l'Argillé in the southwest of the Eure department in Normandy in France .

The Pierre aux Bœufs is an approximately 3.0 m high menhir made of sandstone . Its thickness varies between 0.7 m and 0.8 m.

The stone was accidentally broken off in 1860 and, according to the plaque attached nearby, it was erected again in 1911 by Léon Coutil (1856–1943), who also inventoried it in 1897.

According to a local legend, an English chief was buried under the menhir.
