Pieter Cornelisz van Soest
Pieter Cornelisz van Soest (* around 1600 - 1620 , heyday 1640-67) was a Dutch marine painter who achieved fame in particular for his depictions of contemporary naval battles .
Life
Very little is known about him. In 1642 he received the citizenship of Amsterdam . He painted, among other things, the naval battle of the Downs (1639) and various battles of the Anglo-Dutch War (1665–67), such as the raid on the Medway . He also portrayed the ships Comet Star and Eendracht .
He usually painted the battles in a panorama .
