Piia - Noora Kauppi (born January 7, 1975 in Oulu , Finland ) is a Finnish politician and was a member of the European Parliament for the National Collection Party from 1999-2008, as part of the European People's Party .

Active from 1994 to 1996 as the office manager of the Democratic Youth Association of Europe, Kauppi passed her state examination in law in 1997 and then worked as a consultant for legislative matters until 1999. From 1997 to 1998 she was deputy chairwoman of her party's youth association. From 1997 to 2000 Kauppi was a member of the Oulu City Council, and in 1998 and 1999 even a member of the city government. In 1999 she was elected to the European Parliament for the first time . Within the National Collection Party , she has been a deputy member of the party executive committee since 2000 and deputy chairwoman of the party's women's union since 2004. She has been a member of the regional government of Northern Ostrobothnia since 2001. In 2004 Kauppi succeeded in returning to the European Parliament. There she belongs to the Group of the European People's Party and European Democrats and is a member of the bureau of the same. On January 1, 2009, she moved to the board of the Federation of Finnish Financial Services, a lobby group of insurers and banks.

At the " Worst EU Lobbying Awards " in 2008 she was awarded the prize for the "Worst Conflict of Interest". According to the lenders, she has abused her influence as an EU parliamentarian to represent the interests of her future employer, a lobby group in the banking sector. In 2005 it made a major contribution to watering down EU money laundering laws. She also used her influence for a laissez-faire policy in other areas affecting the banking sector .
