Pilar is a district town and capital of the Ñeembucú department on the Paraguay River in Paraguay with 32,800 inhabitants, on the border with Argentina .

It has, among other things, a historical museum - the Museo Cabildo de Pilar, built in 1784, a port, an airfield and a university .

After the Triple Alliance War , Italian immigrants settled in Pilar and founded a textile factory.
