The Pilgrimhaus , originally in Low German Pilgrim-Hius an Sünte Jaokops-Paoten , is the oldest inn in Westphalia, according to the statutes of 1304, a former pilgrim hostel in Soest belonging to the Paradiese monastery . It was mainly used by the St. James pilgrims.

The Pilgrimhaus is located at the Jakobitor in Soest, where the Hellweg leaves the city to the west. Dendrochronological studies show that the building's origins go back to 1294. The presumably already existing pilgrim hostel was laid down in the statutes on December 2, 1304 by the council of the city of Soest. However, this pilgrim hostel was initially in front of the Jakobitor, outside the city walls, so that pilgrims who could not reach the city before the close of the gate could find accommodation here. But already during the Soest feud (1444–1449) the city decided to relocate the unprotected pilgrims' hostel to today's massive house, which had been used as a hospital ("New Hospital at Jakobitor"), directly behind the gate.

Grimmelshausen's Jäger von Soest , who, according to the Simplicissimus novel , kept sentry at the Jakobitor, married the daughter of the landlord of the neighboring hostel rather involuntarily.

The building, which has been used as a hostel / restaurant at the latest since the feud, was temporarily used as a distillery and brewery. The last major structural changes date from 1910, when the Pilgrim House received a transverse wing to the west and an Art Nouveau conservatory that still exists today . In February 2005 the 700-year-old pilgrim house was the official monument of the month (North Rhine-Westphalia).

Today the Pilgrimhaus is a hotel and restaurant for fine dining.
