Pimania

Pimania was a text and graphics adventure published in 1982 by the British company Automata for various home computers . It was the first computer game for which a monetary prize was awarded for its solution.

The player's task was to traverse a surrealistic game world with the help of Pi-Man, Automata's mascot. In the game world the task was to find the mysterious golden sundial from Pi.

Game principle and technology

A special feature of the game is that the sundial was actually outside of the game world in real life. Automata announced a prize in the form of a gold sundial valued at £ 6,000. Automata had hidden the clues as to where this price could be found in the game. In 1985, the prize went to Sue Cooper and Lizi Newman, who found out that the sundial only appeared on July 22nd ( Pi is around 22: 7) on a lime statue in the shape of a horse in Hindover Hill (near Litlington , East Sussex ) could be found.

On the B-side of the program audio cassette was a song accompanying the game.
