background

Pinball Construction Set represented a new genre of computer games, the "builder" or "construction set". With the PCS, users had the opportunity to build their own virtual pinball machine as a computer game. All they had to do was select a few from a given selection of elements for the pinball machine and place them on a virtual pinball table on the screen. Furthermore, the player could influence factors such as the force of gravity acting on the pinball table, or other physical properties. The players could save their finished pinball machine together with self-made graphic elements on floppy disks and distribute them to other players.

PCS has been sold over 300,000 times on all different home computer systems. After the success, Electronic Arts also launched the Music Construction Set , Adventure Construction Set and Racing Destruction Set programs . All of these successor programs were developed by other programmers.
