The Pinewood Battery is a military facility in Hong Kong . It was built between 1901 and 1905 by the British colonial rulers to protect the port of Hong Kong .

The Pinewood Battery is located at a height of 307 meters on a hill. To the west of the battery is Victoria Harbor , the port of Hong Kong, and to the north is the University of Hong Kong . The Pinewood Battery is located in Lung Fu Shan Contry Park , a 47-acre park.

history

After its construction from June 1901 to November 1905, the gun emplacement was equipped with two 6-inch cannons . On December 15, 1941, the position was attacked by Japanese bombers as part of the attack on Hong Kong and badly damaged. One defender was killed and one seriously injured in the attacks. After the end of the Second World War , the position was left behind.

Todays use

The facility is one of the attractions of Lung Fu Shan Contry Park . The Pinewood Battery Heritage Trail was built for tourists . This approximately 400 meter long path leads across the site. Several signs along the way inform visitors about the history of the place. The ruins are also used to re-enact acts of war.
