The American company Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. (also DuPont Pioneer ) is the world's largest developer and supplier of crops and seeds . The company delivers to over 70 countries. It is now part of the Corteva Group and is headquartered in Johnston , Iowa .

The company was founded by Henry A. Wallace in 1926 and expanded to Canada in 1946. More than a million units of corn had been sold by 1949, two years later the first research station outside the United States was established in Japan, and in 1970 the Hi-Bred Corn Company was renamed Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. In 1971 Pioneer expanded to Western Europe, Central America and South Africa and in 1976 to Central Europe and Asia. 1973 Pioneer became a public company . In 1982, the seeds sold annually exceeded 10 million units. In 1996, Pioneer was the first to start researching transgenic corn . In 1997 DuPont bought 20% of the Pioneer shares, in 1999 it also took over the remaining 80%. After DuPont merged with Dow , the company became part of DowDuPont in 2017 . In 2019 DowDuPont split off the agricultural column and thus also Pioneer as Corteva .
