Piotr Elert (also Peter or Pietro Elert , * around 1575 in Frauenburg ( Warmia ), † around 1653 in Warsaw ) was a Polish composer .

Elert probably received his training in Königsberg . He lived as a violin and viola player and music teacher in Warsaw , where he also ran a printing company. In the appendix of the text Judicium cribri musici by Marco Scacchi , which he printed , a collection of canons from his pen is preserved. He was mistakenly named as the author of a “first Polish opera ”.
