The city is part of the Hoshangabad district . Pipariya has the status of a Municipal Council . The city is divided into 21 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census it had 48,826 inhabitants, of which 25,294 were men and 23,532 women. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 88%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 86.2%, well above the national average.
