Pirates of the Spanish Main (German: Pirates of the Spanish Main ) is one of WizKids Inc. invented " constructible Strategy Game ". It combines the two genres of tabletop and trading card game . The game was released in the USA in July 2004 and has since been supplemented by eight expansions.

description

With small ships, two or more players try to collect gold from islands or sink the enemy fleet (navy). Thanks to the "tabletop" principle, there is no fixed playing field . Any table surface on which islands are laid out, around which the players navigate their ships, can be used. WizKids has come up with a simple trick to measure the distances: There are two distance classes, short ( short ) and long ( long ). These can be found on the back of every ship card and correspond to the short or long side of the card. There are different nationalities, namely the following:

German:

  • The Pirates (Introduced in "Spanish Seas")
  • The English (Introduced in "Spanish Seas")
  • The Spaniards (E. i. "Spanish Seas")
  • The French ("Skull Coast")
  • The US Americans ("Revolution")
  • The Cursed, a supernatural faction for sea monsters and the like ("Curse of Davy Jones")

Only in the English-speaking area:

  • The "Jade Rebellion", a kind of association of Asian pirates, with which many-masted junks came into play ("South Chine Seas")
  • "Mercenaries", a scientific faction which, among other things, introduced submarines ("Mysterious Islands")
  • The Vikings ("Vikings"), who are not "real" Vikings, but Normans and use names from Nordic mythology ("Frozen North")
  • "Barbary Corsairs", roughly: Barbaric Corsairs, they introduced the catamarans ("Barbary Coast")

Sea monsters, titans (crab-like monsters), and sea snakes were also introduced over the course of the series.
