WizKids
WizKids is a Seattle- based American company that first made a name for itself producing and selling collectible miniatures. WizKids was founded in 2000 by FASA veteran Jordan Weisman .
On the one hand, WizKids is known for its patented Clix system, which was used in the Mage Knight , HeroClix and MechWarrior systems. This system enables changeable combat statistics and abilities directly on the characters.
In 2004 WizKids started a new product line, with the first construction-based strategy game Pirates of the Spanish Main .
Other WizKids products include the trading card game Battlestar Galactica , which was released in May 2006 and is based on the television series of the same name.
WizKids also has the rights to the role-playing games Shadowrun and MechWarrior , but until 2007 the licensee was Fantasy Productions , which published the games. After Fantasy Productions withdrew from the role-playing and tabletop sectors, the licenses went to Catalyst Gamelabs in 2007 . Living Room Games (Second Edition) and RedBrick Limited (Classic Edition - alternative 2nd Edition) now hold the rights to the role-playing game Earthdawn .
The company completely ceased operations in 2008, but the brand was taken over by NECA in 2009 .
