Pitheavlis Castle
Pitheavlis Castle is a tower house in the Scottish city of Perth in the Council Area Perth and Kinross . In 1965 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.
history
The Tower House is only mentioned in a few surviving documents. It dates from the later 16th century. A sale of the land is documented in 1586. Towards the end of the 19th century, Pitheavlis Castle is described as run down. Parts of the building were used as a farmhouse at that time. In the course of the 20th century it was restored and serves as a residential building.
description
Pitheavlis Castle is located in the middle of a residential area on Needless Road in southwest Perth. The three-story Tower House has an L-shaped floor plan. Its facades are plastered with Harl . At the foot of the south-west wing there is a portal framed in relief. The wing has loopholes and closes with two corner tours . A rounded stair tower protrudes from the facade at the rear. Next to it is a flatter two-story wing. Both gables of the Tower House are designed as stepped gables .
