Pitaras

Pitaras ( Sanskrit पितरस् pitaras "the fathers"), also Pitris (from Sanskrit पितृ pitṛ "father") denotes in Indian mythology :

  • the souls of the ancestors, to whom water and grain balls ( Sanskrit पिण्ड piṇḍa ) are offered at a certain time ,
  • the sons of the gods, who made repentance and repentance known to their fathers who sinned against Brahma , and
  • the Prajapatis , the ten mythical ancestors of man.
