The Plättli Zoo is a small, privately operated zoo above Frauenfeld in the canton of Thurgau . It is home to 200 animals of around 50 different species.
history
Walter Mauerhofer Sr. (1920–2002) his wife Elisabeth founded the Plättli Zoo in the late 1950s. The first lions moved into the zoo as early as 1960.
Mauerhofer's largest lion show worldwide increased the zoo's popularity in the 1980s. In the 1990s, animal training was discontinued for commercial reasons.
In 1993 Elisabeth and Walter Mauerhofer jr. the zoo in the 2nd generation. Various new animal facilities were built after 2000. With the appointment of the zoo-trained animal keeper Christoph Wüst as operations manager since 2015, the succession of the owner Mauerhofer is regulated.
