Franz Greve
Franz Greve ( September 5, 1844 in Münster - May 12, 1892 in Hamburg ) was a German opera singer ( baritone ).
Life
Greve initially worked as a bank clerk in Munich, and it was only at an advanced age that he decided to use his large and extensive voice resources. From 1882 to 1888 he was a baritone player in Zurich and Mainz and from 1888 until his death he represented the first, mainly heroic, baritone roles at the Hamburg City Theater.
In roles such as “Nelusco” in Meyerbeer's Africaine , “Pizarro” in Fidelio , “Telramund” in Lohengrin , “Count Luna” in the Troubadour of Verdi, “Herr Fluth” in the Lustige Women of Windsor by Nicolai and of “Wotan” in the operas of the Ring cycle , he had great success with the audience.
He was married to the opera singer Katharina Klafsky (1855-1896), who was also engaged at the Hamburg Opera.
