The Plage de Cluny (also: Plage de Cluny ) is a beach in the town of Sainte-Rose in the north of the island of Basse-Terre in Guadeloupe .
geography
The beach is on the north coast of the island of Basse-Terre, in the Anse du Vieux Fort , between the village of Clugny in the east and the Pointe du Vieux Fort in the west. It has light, ocher-colored sand. It is about 1 km long, about halfway interrupted by a rocky outcrop.
Sea turtles
Two of the three species of sea turtles that are found in Guadeloupe nest on this beach: the leatherback turtle and the hawksbill sea turtle . The green sea turtle has not yet been observed here.
Some turtles nest in the sand of the beach, others on the edge of the vegetation and / or under vegetation cover. To protect them, special enclosures for the vegetation were installed to B. to reduce the penetration of artificial light (vehicle headlights, street lighting, etc.).
The national road 2 leads directly past the western part of the beach. To protect the turtles, special signs were put up on the roadside.
tourism
Strong waves and currents on this coast make swimming on this beach dangerous. Therefore - compared to many other beaches in Guadeloupe - there are only a few restaurants on this beach.
