Plaine Monceau
The Plaine Monceau , as the Quartier de la Plaine-de-Monceaux is usually known for short, is an administratively defined district in the 17th arrondissement (Paris) . It is 1384 hectares and has a population of approximately 40,000 people (2005: 38,985). Its name goes back to the old village of Monceau. In the 18th century there was a royal hunting ground here. In 1860, after the incorporation and in connection with the creation of a representative park, the Parc Monceau , the new Paris quarter became a popular residence for the wealthy, especially the Nouveaux Riches of the Second Empire .
