Placard
As Placodes or Placoden be Epidermisareale referred to in vertebrate embryos from which to u. a. Develop parts of the eyes (lens) and the inner ear (sensory cells).
Neurogenic placodes are thickenings of the epithelium in the ectoderm layer of the embryonic brain, from which neurons and other structures of the sensory nervous system arise.
Placodes of the skull
- the dorsolateral placode
- the epibranchial or epipharyngial placode
- the nasal or olfactory placode
- Other cranial placodes that do not give rise to neurons:
- the lens placode
- the adenohypophyseal placode
