The plan of salvation as taught by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints .

The plan of salvation (also called the plan of happiness ) is an important teaching of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It says that people were created by God to be redeemed and glorified. The elements of this plan come from various sources; These include the Bible , Book of Mormon , Doctrine and Covenants , Pearl of Great Price, and quotes from various LDS church leaders.

The plan

In the 1840s, Joseph Smith proclaimed that the human spirit existed with God before the earth was created. This is why Mormons believe in a premortal existence in which people are truly spirit children of God. The Mormons often refer to ( Jer 1,5  EU ) as evidence of support for a premortal existence in the Bible. This teaching is based on revelations from Joseph Smith and other early Church leaders.

During this premortal existence, God presented the following plan for His children:

People are born on earth. There they get a physical body that is necessary for glorification and for perfect happiness . On earth, their faith is tested and they are mortal. A " veil " was put up to remove humanity from the knowledge of its divine origin and to allow free will . Mormons believe that only people who have led good lives, have received all the ordinations of salvation, and have repented of their sins will return to God. But each experience in the mortal world is unique, and each will be judged on the opportunities, blessings, and knowledge that someone has had on earth.

Integral to this plan is freedom of conscience , which, by the will of God, is an unconditional right for His children. All decisions have an impact in the present world and in posterity. Therefore there is a Savior who calls to repentance and who brought the atonement for humanity . He also rose from the dead , making possible the resurrection of all from the dead. The Holy Spirit was sent to encourage righteousness, but he never interferes with freedom of conscience.

Latter-day Saints believe that this plan was not created by accident, but that it was willed by God. They believe this plan is based on eternal truths and enables the salvation of as many children of God as possible. God loves all people unconditionally and wants them to move forward.

Consequences

The plan led to the fall of hell and is why the Mormons introduced baptism into the dead .
