Editorial history
In 1851, Apostle Franklin D. Richards , as mission president in Great Britain, published a compilation of various revelations and writings of the Prophet Joseph Smith , which had previously appeared in the Mormon newspapers in the United States, with a view to making them available in England. He named the compilation after ( Mt 13,46 LUT ) " Köstliche Perle" (English Pearl of Great Price ).
Portions of the Book of Moses were added in 1878. Overlaps with the Doctrine and Covenants were removed in 1902. As part of these changes, the book has been divided into chapters and verses. Footnotes have also been added. An index was added in 1921. In April 1976 two revelations were added. However, these were moved to the Doctrine and Covenants as sections 137 and 138 in 1979 .
