Plano map

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A plano map (also: "poster card " or "wall map") is a cartographic map that is not folded. The map is unprocessed and is in its original size. Often times, a plano map is a separate production and not just an enlargement of a small-scale map.

There are different types of plano maps:

  • Metal-coated plano card
A metal-coated plano card is usually framed with a metal strip at the top and bottom, so that it can be hung up without further fastening.
  • Laminated plano card (also: foiled card)
A laminated plano card is usually laminated on both sides, rarely only on one side, so that it is writable, washable and very tear-resistant.
  • Wood-covered plano card
Plano cards made from wood are framed with a round piece of wood at the top and bottom, they are usually laminated and drawn on canvas or laminated fabric and used as school wall cards .
  • Pin board card
A pin board card (also: WA board) is attached directly to a hard foam or soft fiber board , so that markings can be made with pins like on a pin board .
  • Magnetic wall card
In the case of a magnetic wall card (also: MA board), the plano card is attached to a metal plate so that it can be used like a pin board without being damaged by pins being pierced. In this case, markings are made using small magnets.
