The Plauer lift bridge is a steel lift bridge built in 1916 in the center of the town of Plau am See .

The bridge is underrun by boats when leaving the Plauer See in the Elde . With a lifting height of up to 1.86 m, it is the highest lift bridge in Mecklenburg . The clearance height of the 13 m long monument depends on the water level .

history

The lift bridge was built in 1916 to replace a wooden drawbridge that had been there before . In 1945 the bridge was saved from being blown up.

In 1991/92 reconstruction and renewal took place and in 2000 a basic overhaul including a new drive technology. A remote control was also implemented in consideration of the monument protection . Before this conversion, the lock keeper, who operates the lock at the “ chicken ladder ” a few hundred meters down the Elde , had to ride his bike to the bridge in order to steer the bridge directly from the wooden house. Now boat drivers who come from Plauer See can report the wish to pass through by phone.
