Plaza del Callao
The Plaza del Callao in Madrid is located in the central part of Gran Vía and was built between 1910 and the 1940s.
The precursor was a small square with the same name. Well-known buildings on the square are today the Edificio Carrión , built in 1933 by the architects Luis Martínez Feduchi and Vicente Eced y Eced , with 14 storeys at its time one of the tallest buildings in Madrid, and at No. 4 the roughly equal Palacio de la Prensa from 1928 by Pedro Muguruza , the Edificio Fnac and at No. 3 the cinema Edificio Cine Callao by Luis Gutiérrez Soto, built in 1927 . The square has been a pedestrian zone since 2005 . Calle Preciados , which opens into the square, is known for its expensive fashion stores.
