Pleurodesis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As pleurodesis a surgical procedure is referred to, in which the pleura ( pleura visceral) is connected to the pleura (parietal pleura).

This surgery is done to prevent recurrence of pneumothorax or pleural effusion - it can prevent air or fluid accumulation.

One way to connect the two pleural leaves is to glue them by introducing talc into the pleural cavity . An inflammation is artificially caused, which closes the gap and prevents the accumulation of fluid. Other ways of bonding are drugs like tetracycline or bleomycin .

Adhesion can also be achieved by partially surgically removing the pleural leaves (partial pleurectomy ). This is especially done with repeated accumulations of air (recurrent pneumothorax) or recurrent pleural effusions .
