Ploegsteert is a village in West Belgium with around 1900 inhabitants and a district of the municipality of Comines-Warneton in the province of Hainaut . It is close to the French border, about 5 kilometers north of Armentières city ​​center . Neighboring towns are Le Bizet in the south, Le Gheer in the east, Mesen in the north and Nieuwkerke and Wulvergem in the north-west.

Ploegsteert was first mentioned in 1596 as Plocsteert . During the First World War , the area was fiercely contested in the battles of Flanders , which numerous memorials and military cemeteries provide information on.
