from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Plonk is a Usenet expression that indicates that you have added a certain other user to your own kill file , with the result that the entries of this user are no longer displayed to you. Plonk is an onomatopoeic word for the sound that the "impact" creates in the kill file. The associated verb plonken means entering an address in the kill file ( plonken should not be confused with plenken , the use of excess spaces).

etymology

Plonk warning (with red herring )

The first recorded use is from November 10, 1989.

Plonk is usually understood on Usenet (and only there) as an abbreviation for: “ please leave our newsgroup, kid ”, ie as an announcement that the person to whom this statement is addressed is not wanted. It is often used there against so-called trolls . Elsewhere the word also has the meaning " put lamer on killfile ".
