The Plunket Shield 2000/01 , also known as the Shell Trophy 2000/01 for sponsor reasons , was the 72nd season of the national first-class cricket competition in New Zealand and was held from November 27, 2000 to February 26, 2001. The winners were the Wellington Firebirds .

format

The teams played two games in each division against each other. If a team wins, they get 6 points. If a team leads after the first innings and the game ends in a draw or the game is lost, 2 points are awarded. If the game is canceled, 3 points are awarded, the game starts and there is no decision after the 1st innings both teams get 1 point. It is also possible that teams are deducted points if, for example, they play too slowly or the pitch is not properly prepared. At the end of the season, the first in the table is the winner of the Plunket Shield.
