The Plunket Shield 2003/04 , also known as the State Championship 2003/04 for sponsorship reasons , was the 75th season of the national first-class cricket competition in New Zealand and was held from December 1, 2003 to March 7, 2004. The winners were the Wellington Firebirds .

format

The teams played two games in each division against each other. If a team wins and continues to lead after the first innings , they get 8 points. Should be 6 points behind after the first innings. If a team leads after the first innings and the game ends in a draw or the game is lost, 2 points are awarded. If the game is canceled, 3 points are awarded, the game starts and there is no decision after the 1st innings both teams get 1 point. It is also possible that teams are deducted points if, for example, they play too slowly or the pitch is not properly prepared. At the end of the season, the first and second place finishers have a final, the winner of which is the winner of the Plunket Shield.
